An Accidental Love Story

All it took was a global financial panic, a couple great steaks, a few friends and some shaky foreign language skills to bring us together with some incredible wines.

We had lived our whole lives near California’s wine country, but in 2005 we fell in love with Argentina wines.

Buenos Aires was only beginning to recover from an economic crisis a few years earlier, so our dollars went further than we imagined. One night at one of the city’s countless, amazing steakhouse, our spending power got the best of us—or, more likely, it was a lack of local wine knowledge and Spanish language skill. In any event, we asked the waiter just to bring us the very best bottle from his cellar.

What followed was a revelation, a Malbec that rivaled our best wine experiences anywhere. And, when the bill came, that bottle was less than $50.

That evening stoked our passion for Argentina wines. Years later when friends invited us to tag along for a wine blending in Mendoza, we leapt at the opportunity to purchase our own vineyard in the Los Chacayes (Uco Valley) wine region.

In a special area, this tiny subregion is magical. Here at 3,700 feet above sea level, the hot, dry climate and gravelly alluvial soil extract the fullest, most personal character from iconic grapes like Malbec and Torrontés.

It’s also a place where some of the world’s top winemakers come to innovate. We’re particularly proud of our first release, a white field blend that combines approachable fruit and mineral flavors of French Roussanne and Marsanne with the structured elegance of Chardonnay. Since then, we have gone on to create Reserva red blends with Cabernet Franc and Malbec and a delicious Rosé de Malbec.

Back in our current home of Nashville, we pair our wines with friends and summer evenings spent looking out on fireflies and the woods from our back deck under the glow of string lights. Or, warm fires and music on a frosty winter night.

We look forward to sharing these very special wine with you and your loved ones. And, if Andeval adds to your own elevated experience, let us know on Instagram.

Cheers,

Grant and Judy Opperman
